At International Paper we are committed to continuous improvement in reducing our carbon footprint and improving our energy efficiency.
Our manufacturing processes require large amounts of energy; however, we meet most of these energy needs through the use of renewable biomass residuals. We seek to improve our energy performance, which reduces both air and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the amount of energy consumed. Our goal is to improve energy efficiency by 15 percent by 2020, over a 2010 baseline.

进展:4.2% improvement in purchased energy efficiency
Stated Goal: Improve efficiency in purchased energy use by 15%
Our purchased energy includes fuels such as natural gas, 煤炭, fuel oil and tire-derived fuel, wood residuals such as bark and electricity and steam from utilities. 然而, nearly 75 percent of our mill energy is generated from renewable carbon neutral biomass residuals. Extra energy generated is sometimes sold to an energy company to provide energy for nearby neighborhoods.
Our efficient use of biomass residuals allows us to produce valuable packaging and paper products while reducing fossil fuel use and related GHG emissions.
自2010年以来, International Paper has invested $657 million in energy efficiency improvements and fuel diversity. With these improvements, we realized an energy improvement of 19 trillion BTUs (British thermal units) per year.
We are steadily making progress toward our goal through continued improvements and optimizing processes, equipment and procedures. Some of these projects include:- Boiler efficiency improvements
- Compressed air efficiency
- Electricity conservation
- Evaporation efficiency
- Increased renewable fuel capability
- Machine energy efficiency
- 排放减少
- 水的再利用
